1) I accept Paypal or Venmo on all services. For all editing services, a non-refundable down-payment of the total must be paid before I begin. Consultation services will be pre-paid for each session, with the exception of bundles, which can be broken into installments.
All down payments are final. They're my operating budget while clearing my schedule to work on your projects. There is no refund on the down payment for any reason.
2) After you contact me, you will have the opportunity to get a free sample edit for the first 3k words of your manuscript.
3) Upon receipt of your final edits, your remaining balance will be due within three days.
4) If we agree to a price on a bundle, for example, a round of developmental edits followed by copyediting afterward, then you will be expected to pay the down payment before I begin and each installment as outlined on a document we agree to beforehand. It is expected once we agree that you will follow through with the rest of the package. When I agree to take on a project, I set aside time for you, and it isn't acceptable to ghost an editor before the project is completed.
5) I normally provide edits via Word documents with Track Changes on, with an additional letter of editorial notes of 1-2 pages for developmental edits and/or beta and sensitivity reading.
6) Works submitted should be properly formatted (including paragraphs, to the best of your ability) and have gone through at least one round of self-editing.
By this I mean that it should not be up to me how to spell your characters' names, and you should have finished whatever first draft notes that you've placed on the document for yourself. I can't finalize a document that isn't yet in its second draft.
Professional editing helps to elevate your manuscript but is not a substute for authorial attention.
7) Further, if your draft has not been read over by you and checked for errors by someone, I will not do proofreading for your manuscript. Proofreading is an end-stage service to catch final errors before publishing. There's no point in doing this service when there are significant grammatical, syntactical, and formatting problems. The work is not in depth enough, and I will not do copyedits for the price of a proofread.
8) Following the concept of #7, bundles can be done for successive rounds of editing, such as developmental followed by copyediting, or beta reading followed by proofreading. I do not offer simultaneous copyediting and proofreading. By definition, this does not make sense, and seems to be designed to scam authors. Just so you know, in case someone offers that to you. Copyediting and proofreading are meant to be separate steps.
9) I do not edit or polish up manuscripts that are made from AI generators. If I have agreed to edit your work, I have agreed to edit a story that you have created yourself, not one that has been cobbled together from plagiarized texts stolen from across the internet. There will be a line in your contract affirming that your work is your own, and if I find that you are lying about this, I will keep your deposit and end our relationship, as this will be a breach of contract.
